Community Animation is a process designed to stimulate desired action within a community It is a facilitated process allowing a community to reflect upon and deliberately create a sense of identity, time, purpose, meaning and trajectory. Our initial enquiry phase involves key roleplayers in face-to-face interviews and focus groups.
Using outputs from the interviews and focus groups, we design a change and community animation calendar that engages the relevant aspects of transition in a predictable, phased manner along with members of the community. The result of this participation is a design for the future that has buy-in and support from key community members and stakeholders.
To animate the community the following is required:
- Goals that all members of the community can agree upon and wish to achieve
- A form of leadership that the community can trust and look to achieve the desired goals
- A narrative of origins, the issues/opportunities/dangers and the story of a desired “promised land”
- A space in which to meet and engage
- A plan of what needs to be done, by whom, by when and what support is required.
- Goals, Rules, Roles, Values, Rituals, Resources, Language and a unique style
